Audience: Individuals who are voting in the 2009 election, whom may hold racist beliefs, and will be voting according.
Purpose: This film was made in order to deter voters from voting based on ethnicity during the 2009 presidential election.
Stance: Richard Trumka makes it clear that he is against the idea of race playing a factor in one’s vote for during the election. In order to convey this idea, he uses personal examples of people explaining how race should play a role. In doing so, he alludes to the ignorance behind voting based on race. He argues that Obama is a Christian, an American, and above all a human.
Genre: Persuasive and Factual

Within this video, Richard Trumka uses all three methods of persuasion, in order to get voters to not use race as a factor in their vote.
ReplyDeleteEthos are used because he is a Secretary of Treasures speaking on a political issue. As a politician many are able to assume that he is knowledgeable on the topic he is discussing, as well as having a greater interest in helping the public. Therefore he is believable and trustworthy.
Pathos are used as Trumka discusses personal stories and speaks directly to the audiences' emotions. This is done by him quoting the direct amount of labor workers that have loss their jobs and are now paying the cost of a failing economy, despite color. Therefore people should not vote based on color.
Logos, Trumka uses logic by stating the statistics behind the amount of union workers that have lost their jobs and how Obama will end the war and use the money saved to save the jobs of those who have lost them.
